Information Products: What's required of you

So let’s get started.

If we want to build a successful information product business one of the first things you have to do a pick a niche. But before we get there we need to make sure that this is right for you.

Millions of people run successful businesses from home and millions of people would love to run their business from the comfort of their own home…that fact is that many people are not suited to doing just that.

There are certain personal qualities that you need to possess, or at least be aware of, that are needed so that they can be nurtured to enable you to run a successful home based business.

Some of these qualities are:

Put in the time: Are you willing to work longer than the average 9-5? Because when you first start up your business, especially if you are still holding down your day job, you will have put in as many hours as possible…this will however pay off in the long run. You will also need to put in the time to learn and get better.

Make decisions: Are you a decision maker? In this business you’ll definitely come across many “snooze, you lose situation” type situations. You need to be able to make important decisions on the run.

Learn and adapt: There will always be some that will criticise your efforts; you need to be able to bounce back, learn and improve from these.

Be self motivated: Nobody is going to motivate you. To be successful takes time and work and you must push yourself to achieve your own success. Keep in mind that nobody else cares if you succeed.

Organized: This is probably one of the important ones as it impacts on all areas. You need to be very organised with your time management and resources.

These are just a few of the personal traits, not all of them by any stretch of the imagination, that will help you succeed in running your own business, remember what I said if you’re not good at all of these make sure you keep an eye on those you are weaker at and nurture them.

We, of course, are also here to help you succeed so let’s start moving towards getting the first few $1 in your pocket and onto your financial freedom.

How are Information Products Sold?

There are various ways including fancy websites, but the easiest and most effective, which we are going to look at, is by using a one page sales letter where all they have to do is read and click the button…that easy!

The sales letter itself, which we have a whole section on later in the book, has the following basic structure:

A headline – This is a strong attention grabbing headline which we’ll show you exactly what to say to get the readers attention.

A story – This pulls the reader into the story and keeps their interest and builds up their desire for your product by shouting its benefits using bullets. Not literally!!

Call to action – This is the conclusion to the story and consists of a strong call to get the reader to buy.

Losing you? Don’t stress we will be taking you through every step and show you exactly how to write your headline, story and call to action to ensure you convert as many readers as possible.

So they’ve bought into your heading, they’ve bought into your story and most importantly they’ve bought into your call to action and yes…they want to take action…what then?

It’s as simple as them clicking the order button and they are automatically taken to a Clickbank secure order form, where payment is made and money is collected. After transcription the script delivers your digital information product to your customer and you never have to touch it…it’s all automated…how great is that!?!

What are Information Products?

Strictly speaking, an information product is anything that conveys information like a book, report, audio recording or video. In the Internet context, the term refers to electronically deliverable, knowledge-based products. If it delivers knowledge and you can e-mail it to a customer or offer it as a downloadable file, then it qualifies as an information product.

That’s the techie bit over with!

What we are looking for are information products that either teach something or solve a problem…why? Because these are generally the type of information products that will make you money…that’s what we’re here for isn’t it?

We’re going to be looking at the seven main types of information products, actually the largest areas. Keep these areas in mind when it comes to choosing your product, which we cover further on, as you’ll definitely want it to fall into one of these niches.

How to info: These are usually learning about someone else hobbies e.g. how to start beekeeping, How to draw cars, how to be funny, how to play the piano. I’m sure you get the idea…

Make money: These generally help people run their business and make money e.g. selling things on e-bay, opening a small business etc.

Save money: These can be guides to getting better gas mileage, reducing your mortgage or shopping for bargains.

Health and fitness: These cover weight loss, gain muscle or natural remedies. There will always be a market for these.

Self-help: These usually involve a lot of relationship advice e.g. how do I get him back or turn a friend into a girlfriend, but they do also cover self confidence or dealing with anxiety etc.

Training and skills improvement: Training guides for anything and everything from dog training guides to improving your Microsoft Office skills.

Travel and lifestyle guides: These are self explanatory and cover budget travel, luxury travel and adventure.

Ever wondered how the professionals “Guru’s” bring in large volumes of sales in the smallest amount of time?

Think it takes an army of staff, impressive IT skills and is really complicated?

Think again…you can actually copy their techniques and achieve the same results by yourself, building a solid business that will supply you with a good, steady income for many years to come…if you just know how…

Identify your customers – Identifying your audience and their needs enables you to determine how best you can reach them online, thereby getting the most out of your marketing

Marketing research – analyzes the industry including knowing the leading competitors in your market.

Prepare your budget – how much should you spend and more importantly how much do you have to spend. Prioritize your needs based on how integral the Internet is to your budget, projection into the future and growing your plan as your revenue grows.

Finalize your marketing plan – your complete internet marketing strategy should include:

What internet marketing techniques you will use? How you will implement each technique?
What kinds of resources you will require?
How long you anticipate testing each technique? What you hope to achieve?

Your ability to support and maintain your plan – Consider only implementing strategies you can handle. It is possible to do more damage than good t your business if you implement techniques for which you do not have the business processes or budge in place to support.

Keyword Research – Wordtracker is a free service designed to help advertisers who wish to select terms to target with ads on the Yahoo network.

You’ll note I said, “steady income for many years to come”…don’t waste your time, energy or resources chasing the million-dollar dream…nobody, not even the “Guru’s” chase after this illusive jackpot.

Multiple income streams are the answer i.e. multiple products which will ensure your income stream doesn’t dry up and guarantees your income security. The idea is to develop a number of smaller ideas as these are quicker and easier and don’t have the high risk of failure or heavy investment like the one big all singing all dancing product that we think we need to produce.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not for one minute suggesting you become the world’s best “juggler”…rather develop one idea at a time – give it your full attention until completion and then move onto the next. Ultimately you end up with a number of products all producing you steams of income which in turn gives you the income security you were looking for.

What I don’t want us to forget is what should be your ultimate goal when building your on-line business. It is crucial you get this right from the beginning and fully understand what I am about to say.

Your ultimate goal should be to build a database of subscribers and this should be your primary objective when someone visits one of your sites. If you can capture a visitors email address you could have a customer for life. It’s all part of the process and as with everything else I’ll show you exactly how to do this.

Where do we start?…to succeed on line, you need to first sift out the truth. You must recognize what is truly possible and what is just a lot of hot air.

How do we do this? …well usually…you would use the information at your fingertips, in this case the internet, which is a gigantic source of information and if you can avoid being distracted by the myths and work to create a venture online, then you could create a good

income…true, it’s a problem sifting through all that info trying to figure it all out…trust me, I know, I’ve been there.

It’s not that the material doesn’t exist; it’s that the information is either buried beneath all the drivel you find on the internet or is so expensive it’s not worth considering. In fact many marketers charge $2000 or more for courses to teach you the same things I am about to teach you here.

Why so expensive?...because they can!

So that left me thinking…how amazing it would have been to have an e-book like this to read when I first started, something not just to show me the ropes, but to hold my hand and take me through the entire process step by step.

Okay…enough of how difficult it could have been…let’s get started on your future.

Firstly let’s give you a brief outline, if you don’t know already, what information products are and how they are sold.
